Secondary School Education

RIPPLE Africa currently sponsors about 40 students to attend various secondary schools in the local area and, apart from the new secondary school at Kapanda, the nearest of these is about a 12km walk each way. We also run a Scholarship Fund for the top students. There are currently (January 2008) 14 students on this programme, and they are at top boarding schools. The aim of this sponsorship programme is to stimulate high achievement from the students.

New Secondary School at Kapanda

We began building the new secondary school at Kapanda in 2007 (click here for more information), but we urgently need more money (please see below). The school is being built in cooperation with the District Education Office, the local Chiefs, and our Member of Parliament. It will provide a much needed opportunity for students from the local villages, and we are hopeful that the school will be open for Form 1 before Easter 2008.

There is also a volunteer opportunity for post-doctoral graduates who would be able to teach maths and science, and possibly English and geography, to secondary school students at this new school and possibly at one of the community day secondary schools in the area, and to run a training course for secondary school teachers. For more information about this, please click here.

We need to raise funds for...

Construction of the new secondary school — although we raised enough money to build the first double classroom block, we need to raise more funds to be able to continue this project
