TOYS
AND OTHER SUPPLIES FOR NURSERY SCHOOLS |
| |
The
children in the nursery schools have virtually no toys,
books, pencils, crayons, paints, etc. We need funds to pay
a local wood carver to make and maintain wooden toys for
each nursery school. We are currently assisting six nursery
schools with about 600 children.. |

SCHOLARSHIP
FUND FOR TOP STUDENTS |
| |
There
are some outstanding students who we believe would really
benefit from a better education at a more expensive boarding
school. Once the student has been selected, these fees will
need to be paid for four years. Please
be aware that school fees increase annually. |

SECONDARY
SCHOOL SPONSORSHIP PROGRAMME |
| |
RIPPLE
Africa sponsors about 40 students on this programme at any
one time. Although primary education is free, secondary
education is not, and this programme is vital as many of
the students would not be able to continue with their education
without this assistance. |

MAIZE
AND VEGETABLE GARDENS PROJECT |
| |
We
need funding to help communities to set up maize and vegetable
gardens. These gardens will be managed and run by local
HIV/AIDS sufferers, and will provide food and income for
the members and orphans. Previous projects have been very
successful. |

BICYCLE
AMBULANCES |
| |
We
want to raise enough money to buy bicycle ambulances at
a cost of £230 each. They are a brilliantly
simple idea, and, in the rural areas, they are the ideal
solution to getting patients, particularly pregnant women,
to the nearest health centre. |

HIV/AIDS
AWARENESS PROGRAMME |
| |
HIV/AIDS
is a huge problem in Malawi, and we want to introduce
a hard-hitting awareness programme. This programme will
particularly focus on fishing communities along the lakeshore.
It is common for young girls to have sex with fishermen
in return for fish.

This money is then used to purchase medicines for the
following month. We need funds for additional medicines

COMMUNITY
TREE NURSERIES |

cut down every 10 minutes. We want to open another 25 community
tree nurseries. RIPPLE Africa supplies seeds, tubes, equipment,
and training and awareness activities. |

MOTORCYCLES
URGENTLY NEEDED! |
| |
Our
environmental project covers 4,000 sq.km, and our supervisors
desperately need new motorcycles. For the success of our
tree planting programme, it is vital that the supervisors
visit, train and monitor all the community tree nurseries
in their area. |

More

have to travel 10-15km between their community tree nurseries.
These forest guards are paid by the Forestry Department,
and RIPPLE Africa provides them with bicycles to help them
to do their job. |

BEEKEEPING |
| |
We
want to set up 100 small community beekeeping projects by
providing micro-loans. This project will protect forests,
provide honey, and give a sustainable income. The loan will
include materials and training, and will be repaid over
a two-year period, and then re-invested. |

FISH
FARMING |
| |
Fish
provide valuable protein for Malawians, but fish stocks
in Lake Malawi have been drastically reduced. Commercial

also much needed incomes. Money would be loaned for two

FUEL-EFFICIENT
WOOD-BURNING CLAY STOVES (MBAULA) |
| |
We
are setting up small groups to make mbaula (fuel-efficient
wood-burning clay stoves). These stoves use about 70% less
wood than a conventional fire. We equip and train the groups,
monitor progress, and then help with marketing the units. |
