MICROSCOPES
TO TEST FOR MALARIA AND TB |
| |
We
urgently need two microscopes so patients can be tested
locally for malaria and TB. At the moment, there are no
local testing facilities, and malaria treatments are given
out to everybody who shows symptoms of malaria even though
they may be suffering from some other disease.

MAIZE
AND VEGETABLE GARDENS PROJECT |
| |
We
need funding to help communities to set up maize and vegetable
gardens. These gardens will be managed and run by local
HIV/AIDS sufferers, and will provide food and income for
the members and orphans. Previous projects have been very
successful. |

BICYCLE
AMBULANCES |
| |
We
want to raise enough money to buy bicycle ambulances at
a cost of £230 each. They are a brilliantly
simple idea, and, in the rural areas, they are the ideal
solution to getting patients, particularly pregnant women,
to the nearest health centre. |

HIV/AIDS
AWARENESS PROGRAMME |
| |
HIV/AIDS
is a huge problem in Malawi, and we want to introduce
a hard-hitting awareness programme. This programme will
particularly focus on fishing communities along the lakeshore.
It is common for young girls to have sex with fishermen
in return for fish.

DRUG
REVOLVING FUND |
| |
Medicines
are purchased from the District Pharmacy in Nkhata Bay
and are sold to patients locally by trained volunteers.
This money is then used to purchase medicines for the
following month. We need funds for additional medicines
and training to expand the programme.
